It will air this Friday night October 22nd on WZBC 90.3 FM at 7pm EST. This is a 3+ hour radio broadcast on sound design in science-fiction and horror films I originally produced in 2003. I'm emailing people who I think might be interested in this program; feel free to forward this along.

I'm very excited about this year's program. It's been revised to include sound design in films outside the horror genre, with special focus on the work of sound designers Walter Murch (THX 1138, The Conversation, Apocalypse Now) and Alan Splet (Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet). This year I'm joined by cohosts Mike Frengel, a PhD in electroacoustic composition who teaches film sound design at Northeastern University and filmmaker Michael Neel, the writer/director of Drive-In Horrorshow, which Horror Hound Magazine called "a creative spin on throw-back anthology horror". Other interviews and guest appearances (as time allows) by sound designers Craig Henighan (Requiem For a Dream), Ren Klyce (Seven, Fight Club), Ron Nagle (The Exorcist), Sound Dogs supervising sound editor Stephen Barden, and Steven J. Schneider, author of the books "Fear Without Frontiers", "1001 Films You Must See Before You Die", and "Dark Thoughts: Philosophic Reflections on Cinematic Horror". (Our bibliography for this program includes Michel Chion's "Audio Vision" and Elizabeth Weis' "Film Sound: Theory and Practice".)

Hope you'll tune in this Friday. You can tune in remotely via the online streams at the link below.

Friday October 22 2010
7:00-10:00PM EST
WZBC 90.3 FM
Live streams here:
http://www.wzbc.org/listen.htmlGeorgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11007057395447442920noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11171804.post-36664978712746352162010-06-03T10:21:00.003-04:002010-06-03T10:24:02.507-04:00Comme des Garcons - His activities include futurist
pop, radio plays, electroacoustic, and works for chamber orchestra.
In 1998, he founded Gagarin Records. Kubin's music is saturated by
enthusiasm for disharmonic pop, industrial noise, and 20th-century
avant-garde music. In the last 20 years he has released a large
number of diverse albums and played over 70 electronic music festivals.
One of electronic music's most dynamic performers, he likes to move
between high and low culture, clubs and concert halls, as his main
concern is the shifting of contexts and expectations.
http://www.felixkubin.com/

Bevin Kelley (BLEVIN BLECTUM) is an electronic musician and multimedia
composer. Her performances are often loose narratives incorporating
live interactive electronic sound, manipulated field recordings,
film, action and costume. She holds degrees in English, Violin
Performance, Electronic Music and Recording Media, and Veterinary
Nursing. She has released four solo albums, and many more in
collaboration with other musicians and filmmakers. A time of reflection as all yearly passings are. The quiet semblance of clear landscapes. I strive for space and silence. Bathed in sunlight. An assessment and a drive forward into the future. I hope things will be better for all parties involved. That we could grow in a productive manner. I have so many books to read here. The main objective is to repair the damage and rebuild oneself as best possible. "when you pass so close to me to hold my emotions..." Another breath, another step forward. A whole month of this silence and remembrance. To learn that you can't get away with this forever. Someone will come to you. Bathed in sunlight.Georgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11007057395447442920noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11171804.post-18529446658189178342009-11-07T10:12:00.000-05:002009-11-07T10:13:04.330-05:00Electrelane - The Greater Times (live)Georgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11007057395447442920noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11171804.post-58392154110170445542009-11-06T09:53:00.004-05:002009-11-06T10:02:57.067-05:00The Laboratory - Grand Opening - Ryoji Ikeda - U.S. Premiere of Datamatics [Ver.2.0]<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLPp7cpzQF3fK5N4n4jmk6vV-BsCcew6-_moXVBeroSd-tWKsKjETNzydwT5Wx2f1J5jIFaKc8kh6kv1k049hrz7k_hyePs6TWopGv4eAb1THkqIN7IdapzTWRBvCuCtTYHkfg/s320/datam.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5401005655296748482" />
The Grand Opening of the Laboratory here in Cambridge is on my Birthday, this Sunday, November 8, 2009. What have I learned so far? Where am I going? (I feel like Gauguin for a moment there- asking questions that are impossible to answer) From this life to another passing through time looking back on all that came before. Another quick scan, another place to be thankful for. I had one of the most exciting and somewhat heartbreaking summers in a long time. This is good. It is an adventure I want to continue. I’ve been focusing on those moments lately where one says goodbye. That past reflection when she left – it doesn’t matter who or when its just the few second of total disconnect replayed in my mind over and over. The chemical rush of excitement as I was confident and full of hope and not worried and waiting rest assured it would all continue the “o I should mention this but it can wait because I will certainly see you again soon”. Only to have those hopes crushed on the rocks and washed away in to the ocean of time. Or something like that emerged the next moment being cut off without equivocation. Perhaps it was the age, conflicting interests, divided loyalties, overcome by pursuit...

Georgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11007057395447442920noreply@blogger.com0
